Peace Arch Visitors Centre
Location: Surrey B.C.
Project Description: Visitor’s Centre on the Canadian side of the Peace Arch Border Crossing.
Colwin Electrical Group designed and installed the electrical systems and lighting for this environmentally progressive project. Inspired by the traditional winter dwellings of Semiahmoo First Nations, the structure features a Great Hall supported by columns of local Douglas Fir. The layout of the narrow site mimics the twisting Fraser River. From the air, the footprint of the building looks like one of B.C.’s Gulf Islands. Built to LEED Gold standards, the eco-friendly construction employed a combination of passively reduced heating loads and an in-floor radiant heating and cooling system to reduce the ecological footprint of this building. Colwin even installed a charging station for electric cars!

Pitt Meadows Towers
Location: Pitt Meadows, BC
Project Description: Pitt Meadow’s Municipal Library and combined Commercial/Residential Towers. This project is comprised of three 10 storey concrete residential towers and a four story wood frame building. The towers will rise above the skyline, climbing twice the height of nearby buildings. The wood frame building will provide 20,000 sq. feet of commercial space and will be the new home to Pitt Meadow’s municipal library. Colwin Electrical Group wired and installed all of the security, network systems and lighting for this new construction.
Selkirk Place
Location: Waterfront Crescent, Victoria, B.C.
Project Description: Public-Private Partnership Venture in 6-story Apartment Style Assisted Living and Bed-Care Residence.
The premises are conveniently located on Selkirk Waterfront near the Gorge waterway. The structure features 217 residential care beds and 41 assisted living suites. The building's in-house amenities include a family room, arts and craft room, hair salon, tuck shop, wellness centre, library/sun room, recreation room, resident kitchen and family dining room.
In consultation with our clients, Colwin Electrical Group designed and planned all of the security, network systems and lighting for this new construction.

Stanford Place
Location: Parksville, Vancouver Island, BC
Project Description: Public-Private Partnership Venture in 3-story Apartment Style Assisted Living and Bed-Care Residence with 140 residential care beds and 30 assisted living suites. This building features many amenities and services such as: lounges and strength building gym as well as a hair salon, media room, library and recreation hall. The building also has 2 outdoor courtyards.
Colwin Electrical Group designed and planned the security and network systems and lighting for this new construction.

YVR Templeton Parking Lot
Location: Templeton Station Road, Richmond, BC
Completion Date: November 2009
Project Description: SkyTrain Parking Lot Lighting/Street Traffic Signals. Colwin Electrical Group installed all electrical systems located on the parking premises at Templeton Station, a stop along BC Transit’s newest skytrain line. Colwin installed street lighting, traffic signals (at Templeton intersection) and parking lot lighting. We also hired and managed sub-contractors to install CCTV (closed circuit TV) security systems, wireless Internet services and Code Blue security stations (where a helpline can be activated to answer commuter distress calls).

Rogers Pass Signage
Location: Rogers Pass, BC
Project Description: Digital Highway Signage. For this project, Colwin Electrical Group installed a new digital message board (7.5m x 1.5m) in Rogers Pass, BC along the Trans Canada Highway. The new message board will provide weather information and road condition warnings to motorists. Colwin Electrical Group purchased and installed the equipment on location.

West Pender, Homeless at Risk
Location: West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC
Completion Date: March 2011
Project Description: Social Service and Green Construction. This project will provide non-market housing to low-income singles with rent determined by ‘ability to pay’. The concrete structure will provide 97 residential “small suites” above retail space and parking. Small suites range from 256 to 484 sq. ft. and are designed to provide safe, longer-term housing to residents who would otherwise use emergency shelters and other temporary occupancy situations such as single room occupancy hotels. Each suite has living area, cooking area and bathroom.
This project is sponsored by BC Housing. Colwin Electrical Group installed all low voltage systems, including security, network and lighting. The project is following LEED standards and will be applying for Gold certification. We are grateful to have played a part in reducing the ecological footprint of this building while providing much needed social housing.

Union Gospel Mission
Location: East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC
Completion Date: February 2011
Project Description: Social Service and Green Construction. Expansion of Recovery Rooms and Women’s Shelter. This is the Union Gospel Mission’s single largest expansion to date (71,000 sq. feet and 6 stories). The structure is located directly behind the current Mission and will provide recovery rooms, specialized programs and a larger meal program than previously capable. The old building will be converted into a women’s shelter.
Colwin is utilizing their team of journeymen and apprentices to complete the cabling for all low voltage systems, including security, network and lighting, in this high-rise construction project. We are following LEED standards to meet Silver certification for another much needed expansion to Vancouver’s social services platform.
